Cenote Xcanche (Ek Balam Cenote) Guide
Cenote Xcanche: A Refreshing Oasis Near Ek Balam Guide
Cenote Xcanche, also known as the Ek Balam Cenote, is a stunning natural sinkhole located just a short distance from the Ek Balam archaeological site. This cenote offers a refreshing escape from the heat and a chance to swim in crystal-clear, turquoise waters surrounded by lush jungle vegetation. It's the perfect complement to your exploration of the ancient Maya city. Unlike some of the more developed cenotes in the Yucatan Peninsula, Cenote Xcanche retains a more natural and rustic charm. The cenote is believed to have been used by the ancient Maya for both practical and spiritual purposes, providing a source of fresh water and a connection to the underworld. The name "Xcanche" is derived from the Mayan language. At Cenote Xcanche, you can swim in the cool, refreshing waters, zipline across the cenote for an adrenaline rush, or rappel down to the water's edge. You can also rent kayaks to explore the cenote at your own pace. There are changing rooms, restrooms, and a small restaurant on-site. After your swim, enjoy a traditional Yucatecan meal at the restaurant, or head back to Valladolid for a wider selection of dining options.
